Union Home Minister Amit Shah has set December 31, 2029, as the target to eliminate India’s drug trade, calling for stronger coordination between central and state agencies. Speaking at the 3rd National Conference of Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) heads in New Delhi on September 22, 2026, he stressed that enforcement agencies must focus on dismantling entire drug-trafficking networks rather than just seizing narcotics.
The two-day conference brought together representatives from all 36 States and Union Territories to discuss the Vision Document on Narcotics Control 2026–2029. Key priorities include tackling synthetic drugs, tracing financial and digital links of drug cartels, strengthening intelligence-sharing and expanding public awareness. Shah also launched the revamped Narcotics Control Bureau website and laid the foundation stones for new NCB zonal complexes in Lucknow and Dehradun.
