The Central Government has notified the appointment of eight new Chief Justices for High Courts across India, following recommendations of the Supreme Court Collegium. The appointments were notified on 5 September 2026, completing the process of filling the Chief Justice positions in all 25 High Courts. The appointments include Justice Valluri Kameswar Rao as Chief Justice of the Patna High Court, Justice Ravindra V. Ghuge as Chief Justice of the Calcutta High Court, Justice Sanjay Kumar Agrawal as Chief Justice of the Rajasthan High Court, and Justice Mahesh Chandra Tripathi as Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court. Other appointments were made for the Punjab & Haryana, Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh High Courts. With these appointments, all 25 High Courts now have regular Chief Justices, providing permanent judicial leadership to the country's High Courts. The appointments followed recommendations made by the Supreme Court Collegium on 6 August and 31 August 2026, with the Chhattisgarh appointment made separately after the retirement of its sitting Chief Justice.
