E-Shram Portal Reaches 31.89 Crore Workers In Five Years
August 26, 2026 • National
The e-Shram Portal, launched by the Ministry of Labour and Employment in August 2021, has registered more than 31.89 crore unorganised workers, highlighting its growing reach among workers in sectors such as construction, agriculture, domestic work and street vending.
The portal was created to build a National Database of Unorganised Workers (NDUW) and provide registered workers with a Universal Account Number (UAN). It has also evolved into a One-Stop-Solution, linking workers with various government social-security and welfare schemes. As of 2025, 14 schemes had been integrated with e-Shram, covering areas such as health insurance, pensions, housing, employment and financial support.
The milestone is significant because e-Shram gives the government a more organised way to identify unorganised workers and improve the delivery of welfare benefits to this large section of India’s workforce.
