Introduction Of 131st Constitutional Amendment Bill In Parliament
July 19, 2026 • National
The government has introduced the 131st Constitutional Amendment Bill in Parliament as part of a major push for electoral reforms. The proposed Bill aims to increase the maximum strength of the Lok Sabha, enable a fresh delimitation of parliamentary and assembly constituencies, and pave the way for 33% reservation for women in the Lok Sabha and State Legislative Assemblies. It also allows Parliament to decide which Census will be used for the next delimitation exercise. The move is intended to ensure fairer representation and strengthen women's participation in the country's legislative process.
