Kamarajar Port Becomes India's Second Deep-Draft Major Port

July 8, 2026 • National
India's maritime infrastructure received a major boost as Kamarajar Port became the country's second major port to achieve an 18-metre draft capability. This enhanced depth enables the port to accommodate ultra-large container ships and bulk carriers, improving cargo handling efficiency, reducing logistics costs, and strengthening India's position in global maritime trade. The milestone is expected to support higher cargo volumes and reinforce the country's vision of becoming a leading maritime and logistics hub.
