September 17, 2026 • International
New Zealand’s Parliament has approved legislation to implement the India–New Zealand Free Trade Agreement (FTA), marking a significant step towards strengthening economic ties between the two countries. The agreement aims to reduce trade barriers, expand market access and boost bilateral trade by creating new opportunities for exporters, businesses and investors. Under the pact, Indian goods are set to receive duty-free access to the New Zealand market, while tariffs on a large share of New Zealand’s exports to India will be eliminated or reduced. The agreement is expected to benefit key sectors, including textiles, footwear, engineering goods, agriculture and services, while encouraging investment and deeper economic cooperation. Following ratification by both countries, the agreement is scheduled to come into force on 20 October 2026.
