July 7, 2026 • International
The Government of India has appointed Sanjeev Jain, a senior Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer, as the country's new Ambassador to North Korea (Democratic People's Republic of Korea – DPRK). His appointment marks a significant step in strengthening India's diplomatic engagement with Pyongyang after a prolonged period of limited official presence.
Sanjeev Jain is expected to head the Indian Embassy in Pyongyang, where he will oversee bilateral relations, political dialogue, and cooperation in areas of mutual interest. The appointment comes as India gradually restores its diplomatic outreach to North Korea following disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and changing regional dynamics.
