Indian travellers can now make UPI-based merchant payments across Uzbekistan by scanning UZQR codes, following a partnership between NPCI International and Uzbekistan’s payment network. The integration allows users to pay directly through their existing UPI-enabled apps, reducing the need to carry local currency or rely on conventional payment methods. The move is significant for Indian tourists and businesses, as it makes everyday payments such as shopping, dining and other merchant transactions more convenient. It also marks another step in the international expansion of UPI, strengthening digital-payment connectivity between India and Uzbekistan.
