India has been ranked 125th in the Global Passport Index 2026, slipping one position from its 2025 ranking. The annual index, released by Global Citizen Solutions, evaluates passports on multiple factors including global mobility, investment opportunities, and quality of life, rather than relying solely on visa-free travel access. According to the report, Indian passport holders currently enjoy visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to 26 destinations, reflecting limited international travel freedom compared to many other countries. Despite the decline in ranking, India's overall score reached its highest level in the last five years, indicating gradual improvements in some areas even as other countries advanced faster.
