India has sent the first consignment of components for a 70-metre Bailey bridge to Nepal to help restore road connectivity in the flood-affected Betrawati area.
The assistance follows the devastating flash floods of August 2026, which damaged bridges and disrupted transport links in Nepal. The bridge components were handed over to Nepal’s Road Division in Hetauda, with additional consignments expected to follow.
A Bailey bridge is a prefabricated, modular steel bridge that can be assembled quickly, making it useful for restoring connectivity after natural disasters. The initiative reflects India’s ongoing humanitarian assistance to Nepal and support for post-disaster recovery.
