India, US Launch TRUST Initiative To Protect Undersea Cables
September 12, 2026 • International
India and the United States have launched the 'TRUST' Initiative to strengthen the security of the vast network of undersea communication cables that connects countries through the internet. These submarine cables carry nearly all international data, making them essential for banking, digital payments, telecom services, cloud computing, and global communication.

Under the initiative, both countries will work together to improve the protection and resilience of this critical digital infrastructure. The partnership focuses on sharing technology, strengthening cybersecurity, improving monitoring systems, and responding more effectively to damage caused by accidents, natural disasters, or other security threats.
As the world becomes increasingly dependent on digital connectivity, the TRUST Initiative aims to ensure that global communication remains secure, reliable, and uninterrupted while deepening strategic cooperation between India and the United States.
