India’s Forex Reserves Hit Record $729.3 Billion

August 29, 2026 • Economy
India’s foreign exchange reserves have surged to a record $729.3 billion, marking a significant increase in the country’s external financial buffers. Forex reserves, held by the Reserve Bank of India, include foreign currencies, gold and other reserve assets and help India meet international payment obligations and manage external economic pressures. The rise strengthens India’s ability to deal with global market volatility, support confidence in the economy and provide a cushion against potential external shocks. The record level also reflects the country’s improving reserve position amid changing global economic and financial conditions.
