September 15, 2026 • National
Karnataka has established a raisin processing and cold storage unit at Thoravi village in Vijayapura district to support local grape farmers and reduce transportation costs.
The facility, set up under the Karnataka Grape and Wine Board with funding from NABARD and the state government under the Rural Infrastructure Development Fund (RIDF), has a capacity of 10,000 tonnes and can process four tonnes of raisins per hour.
Expected to become fully functional in November 2026, the unit will benefit farmers in Vijayapura, Bagalkot and Belagavi by reducing their dependence on processing centers in Maharashtra and improving local agricultural storage and processing facilities.
