Astronomers have discovered S301, the fastest-known star in the Milky Way, orbiting the supermassive black hole Sagittarius A*. The star reaches speeds of around 25,000 km/s, or more than 8% of the speed of light. Its unusually close orbit could help scientists learn more about the black hole’s rotation and test Einstein’s theory of relativity.
