The Government of India has launched the Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat Sankalp Abhiyan, a nationwide initiative aimed at combating substance abuse and encouraging young people to adopt healthy, responsible and addiction-free lifestyles. The campaign was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 2 August 2026 and is being implemented through Mera Yuva Bharat (MY Bharat) under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, with the National Service Scheme (NSS) and other partner organizations playing an important role.
The initiative is designed as a 100-week nationwide public participation campaign to raise awareness about the harmful effects of drug abuse and encourage young people to become active participants in building a drug-free India. It brings together educational institutions, universities, youth organisations, NGOs, industry associations and spiritual organisations to promote awareness and community-led action against addiction.
The campaign follows four key pillars: Prevent, Protect, Recover and Lead. Its activities include awareness programmes, youth pledge-taking ceremonies, signature campaigns, sports events, fitness activities, street plays, discussions, seminars and community outreach initiatives. These activities aim to encourage preventive action, promote healthier lifestyles, support recovery and empower young people to lead positive social change.
The nationwide Rashtriya Sankalp Samaroh phase began on 18 September 2026, with activities organised through educational institutions and youth networks across the country. The campaign's first month concluded with the nationwide Yuva Sanwad Mela on 9 October 2026, conducted across 200 designated institutions and their adopted villages. According to the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, the programme engaged 1,06,855 participants, strengthening awareness about substance abuse prevention and the importance of an addiction-free society.
