The BAPS Swaminarayan Hindu Mandir was inaugurated in Bussy-Saint-Georges, near Paris, France, on 6 September 2026, marking the opening of France’s first traditional Hindu stone temple. The inauguration was part of a 13-day Festival of Culture organized by BAPS. Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the inauguration virtually and described the temple as a new milestone in India-France cultural relations. He highlighted the temple as a symbol of cooperation between the two countries and said it would add to France’s cultural diversity. The temple represents a unique combination of Indian craftsmanship and French engineering. Many of its intricately carved stones were prepared in India and then assembled in France, leading PM Modi to describe it as “Made in India” and “Built in France.” The inauguration also included the murti-pratishtha ceremony, led by BAPS spiritual leader Mahant Swami Maharaj. The temple is intended not only as a place of worship but also as a center for cultural activities, learning, and community service.
