Supreme Court Reduces Judicial Service Practice Requirement To 1 Year

August 22, 2026 • National
The Supreme Court has reduced the mandatory legal practice requirement for entry-level judicial service from three years to one year. The main intention is to balance the need for practical courtroom experience with the need to give young law graduates a fair opportunity to enter the judiciary. At the same time, the Court has strengthened post-selection training and supervised clerkship, so candidates can gain practical judicial experience before taking up regular judicial responsibilities.
