Türkiye has joined NASA’s Artemis Accords as the 71st signatory, strengthening its participation in international efforts focused on peaceful, transparent and sustainable space exploration. The agreement was signed on August 31, 2026, at NASA Headquarters in Washington, with Türkiye’s Industry and Technology Minister Mehmet Fatih Kacır signing on behalf of the country. The Artemis Accords, established in 2020, provide a common framework for countries involved in civil space exploration, including cooperation, scientific data sharing, transparency and responsible activities on the Moon and beyond. Türkiye’s entry comes as it expands its own space programme and prepares for its AYAP-1 lunar mission, adding greater significance to the agreement for the country’s future lunar ambitions.
