England Fast Bowler Mark Wood Retires From International Cricket

September 22, 2026 • Sports
England fast bowler Mark Wood announced his retirement from international cricket on September 22, 2026, bringing an end to an 11-year career affected by recurring injuries. The 36-year-old played 146 international matches across all three formats, taking 253 wickets in Tests, One-Day Internationals (ODIs) and T20 Internationals (T20Is). Wood claimed 119 wickets in 38 Tests, 80 in 70 ODIs and 54 in 38 T20Is. He was part of England’s 2019 ODI World Cup-winning team and the 2022 T20 World Cup-winning squad. His decision followed persistent knee problems, with medical advice ruling out a return to Test and 50-over cricket.
