Gujarat has become the first state in India to construct advanced air-filled rubber dams, introducing cutting-edge South Korean technology to strengthen water management and irrigation infrastructure. The two projects, located on the Heran River in Chhota Udepur district and the Ambika River in Tapi district, are being developed at a combined cost of over ₹162 crore. These inflatable dams can be raised to store water during dry periods and deflated during heavy rainfall, allowing floodwaters and silt to pass safely. Equipped with automated SCADA-based control systems, the dams are expected to improve irrigation coverage, enhance groundwater recharge, support sustainable agriculture, and strengthen flood management for thousands of farmers across multiple villages. The initiative marks a significant step toward modern, climate-resilient water infrastructure in India.
