India and MERCOSUR have started talks to expand their existing Preferential Trade Agreement (PTA), with a focus on strengthening trade and creating more opportunities for businesses in both regions.
The discussions aim to bring more areas under the agreement and further deepen India–South America economic ties. Both sides are also working on the Terms of Reference (ToR), which will set the scope and direction for the expanded trade deal.
Alongside this, India and MERCOSUR are taking steps to make trade simpler and more efficient. A new protocol for electronic Certificates of Origin will help reduce paperwork, support paperless trade and make customs procedures smoother.
Overall, the move is expected to give a fresh push to India–MERCOSUR trade relations and open up more opportunities for businesses on both sides.
