IRCTC To Boost Ticket Booking Capacity To Over 1 Lakh Per Minute
August 25, 2026 • National
IRCTC is upgrading its online ticket-booking infrastructure to handle more than 1 lakh bookings per minute, a major increase aimed at managing the heavy traffic seen during Tatkal bookings, festive seasons and peak travel periods. The upgraded system will strengthen servers, storage, networking and software to improve speed and reliability.
The move is particularly significant because around 89% of reserved railway tickets are now booked online. Between June 2025 and June 2026, passengers booked 57.90 crore reserved tickets online out of 65.08 crore total reserved tickets. IRCTC is also working on an active-active disaster recovery system to keep booking services running even if one part of the infrastructure faces an outage.
