The Ministry of Jal Shakti has launched Swachh Seva Aankalan (SSA), an annual digital framework to assess and monitor sanitation services in rural India under the Swachh Bharat Mission (Grameen) 2.0. Launched on 15 September 2026, the initiative enables Gram Panchayats to evaluate their sanitation performance and identify areas for improvement. The framework involves Gram Panchayats, Gram Sabhas, Village Water and Sanitation Committees, and district- and state-level officials. It also includes validation through Gram Sabhas, strengthening community participation, transparency and accountability in rural sanitation. The initiative aims to improve local sanitation services through regular assessment, community involvement and data-driven planning, supporting the broader goal of building cleaner and healthier rural communities.
