The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is constructing a 12-km, four-lane, access-controlled bypass in Dehradun at a cost of around ₹716 crore. The project will connect Jhajhra with the Delhi–Dehradun Economic Corridor near Asharori Check Post, creating an alternate route for heavy and through-traffic and reducing congestion inside Dehradun. The bypass is expected to improve connectivity to Selaqui, Vikasnagar, Herbertpur and Paonta Sahib, while making travel towards Mussoorie and other northern regions smoother. It is also expected to reduce travel delays, vehicular pollution and pressure on Dehradun’s main roads. The project is targeted for completion by April 2027. The project also includes wildlife-protection measures, including a 350-metre vehicular overpass, a cattle overpass, bridges and dedicated passages for smaller animals, as parts of the route pass through forest areas.
